Naturelle Lane Spotlight – Seisyn Jewelry
I met these naturelles via the web several months back and was really excited that they wanted to be featured on my blog! Love it! I am so excited to introduce you to LaNaye and LaToya of Seisyn Jewelry.
LaNaye and LaToya have been natural for almost all their lives. In high school, they were pressured to perm but, fortunately that didn’t last long. To them, natural hair styles are fun, offer versatility, and bring joy to their lives. The reality of it is they disliked how the chemical took away their natural hair texture. They enjoy connecting with other naturals to get ideas and strengthen their confidence.
They believe that anyone with natural hair should be encouraged and do their research. Their motto – Be PROUD of what God has blessed you with!!:)
UAN: Tell us about yourselves
We (LaNaye Lawson and LaToya Jones) are best friends from Chicago of over 20 years! We decided to partner as hand beaded jewelry designers for our company Seisyn eight years ago on the campus of Morgan State University.
UAN: Tell me about your jewelry line?
Seisyn is a hand beaded jewelry line that is all about fun bold color and texture mixing. Our company recognizes the need for women to have the permission to just be, the feeling of being fulfilled in one’s own skin through all the changes that come along with womanhood; this is our company’s primary intention behind the products. Hence, Seisyn: Experience Femininity, Evolve. The products inspire people beyond the realm of fashion. They extract a sense of being free, creative, fun, and being tailored to the individual.
UAN: Are you self-taught jewelry designers?
Yes we are self-taught. We actually just began beading jewelry as a creative past-time our sophomore year in undergrad. We started to get compliments and inquiries on where to get the jewelry; so we decided to turn our then hobby, into a business venture.
UAN: Who or what inspires your pieces?
Any and everything inspires our pieces…Nature, Art, Music, Fashion, and even our particular moods at the time of beading; all have a hand in our design concepts.
We don’t sketch so we create everything spontaneously and in the moment!
UAN: What is your favorite piece in your jewelry line?
Dispel and Strong are our current favorites from the new line, our favorites tend to be ever changing but for now these two are standing out to us. UAN – I’m an earth tone kinda girl…I love your Courage Earrings and the Strong Ring!
UAN: In your opinion, what makes you stand apart from others?
Seisyn is for freedom of expression, going against the grain, and appreciating distinctiveness. Seisyn emphasizes loving thy self, defining oneself, and not being afraid to chance difference. Seisyn makes all of the latter significant to being a woman over time. We approach our product lines with the idea of wearable art in mind, avoiding predictable and projecting eccentricity. The point is to coalesce art and jewelry, revamping conventional designs to make a statement for abstract beauty.
UAN: If your jewelry could be featured anywhere, or be seen on anyone, where or who would it be?
It is a dream of ours for our products to be featured in Essence Magazine and worn by Tracee Ellis Ross. Essence Magazine is a staple proponent of Black women’s fashion, health, and overall success and we appreciate and respect what it has done and meant for our community for decades. For all those reasons and more we would be honored to be featured in that dynamic publication. Additionally, Tracee Ellis Ross is our ongoing favorite female fashion icon. She is the complete epitome of style, grace, and class all of which are traits Seisyn works so hard to promote in all women.
