Recap of FroFashion Week Feb 2012

Let me start by saying I had an amazing weekend.  Even though Fro Fashion Week started on Wednesday with a Twitter Party hosted by Curls, I did not arrive until Saturday.  At registration I was lucky enough to be greeted by Tarin Boone, creator of Fro Fashion Week.  She welcomed me and my roommate – vloger (video blogger) FoxyDoll78 – with a warm hug and welcoming smile.  Once we received our material, we perused the amazing product samples in our swag bag as well as the Schedule of Events.  Man – I wish there was more than one me, because choosing which workshops I wanted to attend was difficult, I wanted it all.

When I was not attending a workshop, I had the pleasure of walking through The Runway Shopping Arena, getting a manicure done at the Shea Moisture Lounge, and even getting my hair done by Zachary Britt in the Curls Unleashed Lounge! If that wasn’t enough, as a registered blogger, I was invited to the Bloggers Brand and Brunch with none other than Patrice of Afrobella!  Now, to add icing to the cake, the networking opportunities were ridiculous!  I feel like I know so many of my Twitter and Facebook friends not only by their twitter handles, but now by face and all this was due to the magnificently well executed event we call Fro Fashion Week!

Bloggers Brand and Brunch:

If you are a blogger, you needed to be here.  Afrobella provided the group with some insight on the world of being a fulltime blogger, creating a brand, and knowing your worth.  She made herself available before and after the brunch for questions.  She’s an all-around amazing person, and I thank her for sharing her personal blogging journey and providing me with the encouragement to keep going!

Some of my favorite Workshops:

  1. Naturally Natural Documentary – I will be sharing more information on this, but one of my lovely natural twitter friends @ThatsQueen2U– created a documentary on the natural hair journey.
  2. Essentials of Your Hair Journey – This workshop was presented by Key Martin – this professional hairstylist walked us through some key factors of managing our natural hair.  During this presentation she also styled @BabyShopa (twitter handle) hair!
  3. Confessions of a Thrift Shopper – Let me start by saying I accidently entered this workshop and later regreted that I missed about half of it – by far the best saving tips I’ve learned! Tip – is you like shoes, follow DSW on Twitter – they giveaway shoes on Friday at 12pm, follow them for more info.  Also, during this workshop I found the perfect dress for The Texture on the Runway Event happening on Feb 11!
  4.

Penthouse Party Hosted by Kim Coles

Kim Coles is my new “friend in my head” – YES, you heard me.  Kim Coles was so down to earth and her energy is off the hook!  She and I spoke a few times – during the event – and let me tell you – what you see with her is what you get!  Thanks Kim for a great Penthouse party!

Oh, did I tell you, Kim Coles loved my earring made by none other than @CICinspireme (twitter handle)!

Fro Fashion Show

The fashion show opened up with spoken word by Evelyn King. She gave us an amazing performance.  The host of the Fashion Show was JZhanel “JZ” Cole.  This fashion show had a little something for everyone – from plus size fashions to swimsuits, to men’s designer wear (female eye candy)! For those of you who did not attend, I would highly recommend it and hope you consider attending next time.

Please stop by tomorrow, because this is part one of a three part series on Fro Fashion week.  Part two will have a gallery of hair styles that walked The Melia Hotel (where Fro Fashion Week was hosted), and part three will talk about the many sponsors/vendors/designers in attendance!
