If you follow me on FaceBook or Twitter – you may hear me complain about the fact that I can not cornrow. Well, I took this as a challenge and decided that I would continually try my hand at cornrowing until I got it right. Below is my first real attempt at cornrowing. I have to say, there are a lot of “How to Cornrow Tutorials” available on YouTube, but aside from watching the tutorials, here are my suggestions:
1. PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE – once I got the hang of what I was doing, I realized it wasn’t so hard, and I got better with each cornrow I did!
2. Keep a steady hand – as I was practicing, I realized the importance of keeping a steady hand. If you keep your hands steady and keep your fingers close to the scalp, the cornrow will stay tight (not too tight though) and will maintain it’s form. Keeping a steady hand also ensures that the cornrow is being created in the direction you intend.
3. Be sure the hair is completely detangled. This will guarantee a clean looking cornrow as well as ease the cornrowing process.
4. Part the hair as neatly as possible – this will decrease the amount of stray strands entering the cornrow you are working on!
Hope these tips help out (for the beginner corn-rower). If you have any other suggestions, please feel free to comment below. Also, here is my debut cornrowing style on Lil Naturelle! Let me know what you think!
