Before and After Pics of Combing Out Locs

I constantly get questions about how I combed out my loc’s.  The two most common questions are:

  • How much length were you able to retain?
  • Can I see some before and after pictures?

Maybe two years before I combed out my locs

This was after I combed out all my locs, washed, and deep conditioned.

The first picture was taken maybe a year or two before I combed out my locs.  I just wanted you to get an idea of the length.  They were very close to booty length by the time I began the process.  The second picture is after the comb out process was complete.  I washed and deep conditioned my hair.  As you can see, my hair was completely uneven.  I attempted to cut my hair on my own (not recommending this AT ALL).  Because of this, I did get my hair cut within the first two weeks of having loose natural hair.

Well, let me know what you think by leaving a comment and as always thanks for stopping by.

Yes I do ! I have been meaning to do a hair history type post ! It took me a week, but I think if I had taken a little more time I would’ve retained even more hair.

Thank you for the pics. I have had mine for a lil over 4yrs and now i am really considering combing them out. I have never seen my hair longer than 1 in in its natural state. My locs have gotten me through four pregnancies and i think i want a change.

How long did you have your locs before you combed them out?

Thanks for stopping by. I actually had my locs for close to 7 years before I decided to comb them out!

Thanks for the info. I’m actually considering dreading my hair because I think it’s so beautiful, but just in case, it’s good to know I wouldn’t be starting from scratch!

I too combed out all my locs. Wasn’t in a rush so took me 4 months, late Aug to December. I started in the middle and kept my hair in buns. I retained lots of length (was surprising). I then had that trimmed down. While I am loving my natural and free hair I have to admit I miss my locs. And the fact that my boyfriend still has his doesn’t help. I wear flat and two strand twists, braid outs, blow outs (well once) and twist outs.

Just came across your blog and I am really thinking of combing mine out as well…i am getting tired of the heaviness due to having thick hair…to put it in a proper ponytail, my husband has to help me :( ..but he likes my locs and I don’t even know what to do with it when it is out natural…but u have given me some insight, so I will weigh my options still…:)
