Product Review – Hair Rules Blow Out Your Curls

In early December there was a Hair Rules Twitter Party to introduce a new Hair Rules “Blow Out” Line.  In light of this party, Anne Agoren of Izzi Bag Collection (you MUST check out her bags!) sponsored a great giveaway, and guess what – I WON!  Yes I am like a kid in a candy store when I win something.  In light of my win, I decided to blow out / flat iron my hair for the second time in 10 months and write a product review while I was at it.

Product Information:

Hair Rules Blow Out Your Curls

2 oz bottle /$9.50

Ingredients:

water, glycerin, propylene glycol, polyquaternium-55, polyquaternium-7, panthenol, hedychium coronarium root extract, cymbopogon schoenanthus extract, humulus lupulus (hops) extract, coix lacryma-jobi (job’s tears) seed extract, hydroxyethylcellulose, sucrose laurate, sucrose dilaurate, sucrose trilaurate, sorbitol, polysorbate 20, disodium EDTA, DMDM Hydantoin, iodopropynyl butylcarbamate, fragrance.

Product Details: (directly from the website)

Blow Out Your Curls – created with a perfect blend of science and nature, boasting extracts of coconut oil, abyssinia oil, jojoba oil, and soothing shea butter, combined with a unique co-polymer of glycerin, Blow Out Your Curls seals the cuticle’s surface, increasing gloss, body, and manageability.

Directions for Use:

Apply a quarter size amount evenly from root to ends to clean, wet detangled hair. Using a blow dryer with a comb attachment or round, or flat, bristle brush gently start at roots and work in a continuous motion towards ends until hair is smooth and dry. Follow with a flat iron to seal in moisture and smooth cuticle.

My Experience

I received both the Blow Out Your Curls and the Blow Out Your Kinks.  I really wasn’t sure which one to use, so after much debate, I  decided to try the Blow Out Your Curls for my hair – judge for yourself….

Curly or Kinky ????

What does it look like?

The product is clear and light weight.  It has a great smell.

What does it really do?

This product was really easy to use.  After I washed, conditioned, and detangled my hair, I added a little more than a quarter size of Blow Out Your Curls to my hair and went to work with the blow drier.  I felt that this product allowed me to blow my hair out well without using high heat.  My hair dried fairly straight with no product build up.  My hair looked shiny and was full of body.  It has been three days and my hair is still straight, full of body, and shiny! While managing my hair these past three days, I have seen no breakage (which is something I am always nervous about when using heat).  The blow drying and flat ironing took me a total of 1.5 hours tops!  Results of blow out / flat ironing coming in another post. Sneak Peak though…

After I blow dried on low heat

Rating?

I really liked this product.  I was able to get great results on low heat and after three days, my hair is still holding up really well. Next time – probably not for another 5 to 6 months, I will try the Blow Out Your Kinks and see which works best on my hair.

Would I purchase this product on my own?  I believe I would.  I do not blow out my hair enough so the price tag of approximately $10 for a 2oz product isn’t bad – it would probably last me a lifetime!

Disclaimer:  I am not a hairstylist or beautician.  I did not buy this product.  It was provided to me via a giveaway.  These are my opinions!

Great post, Daphne! I’m really eager to see the results. As you already know, I did attend the Blow Out Your Curls Hair Rules Party. What I found interesting is that the stylists used the Blow Out Your Waves on all of the models (and the models ranged from curlies to a bit more kinkier than your hair). Dickey of Hair Rules says that the Blow Out Your Waves is his favorite and is the one he uses most often. So, you may want to give that a try also.

    Best,

Thanks so much for sharing this I’ve never heard of this product before now……great stuff your hair looks great!
As of right now my new found love has been the roller sets followed by a silk wrap, without direct heat.

But, I am really liking how your hair and the other ladies hair turned out on coils and curls. I’m off to reasearch this product:) I like what I see thus far. Take care

  • Une Autre Naturelle

Lavada – thanks for the info about Blow Out Your Waves. I noticed that Dickey really like that product – but as far as trying it – it won’t be for another 6 months – no more heat for me. I have to admit, that I liked this product because it was a cream/lotion. The first time I flat ironed my hair I used a spray, and spraying each section was driving me crazy – call me lazy!

  • Une Autre Naturelle

Zainab1 – yes, I love the idea of a roller set. Since I do not plan on utilizing heat again – for at least six months – I will have to try the roller sets. I find that the cold months are the best for roller setting – no worry about humidity.
You should really look into the Hair Rules products, they are kind of on the expensive side, but I must admit, I have mostly (can’t please everyone) heard good things about them. Definitely check out Coils and Curls, she has been doing a Hair Rules challenge and was also given a personal curl consult with Dickey – one of the founders of Hair Rules.
    Thanks for stopping by!

  • AlmostOverMyLocs

I have had my locs for 6 years now and I’m really thinking about combing them out I worry that I won’t be able to straighten my hair afterwards as well as you did. Do you think it will work the same or similar for black/ afro amer. hair texture????
